It has been over 40 years since Greg Morton performed in Tavistock, Ontario, (Just 25 kilometres from his hometown of Woodstock). Back in the 80’s he was a mobile disc jockey, spinning vinyl at weddings and dances, while strutting across the stage in a bright yellow and black bumble bee costume. Silly, yet humble beginnings for this Oxford County native, who would go on to become a semi-finalist on America’s Got Talent.
“This was the genesis, the beginning of what would become my touring one man variety show,” Morton said. “Places like Tavistock, Woodstock, Ingersoll and the tobacco circuit. This is where I cut my teeth and honed my craft.”
This Saturday, Tavistock will relive those glory days. Celebrate good times!
This event has been sponsored by the Optimist Club. Proceeds from the event will be donated to the Tavistock Splash Pad. Tickets are moving fast so please click the link above and purchase your tickets today.
This is a night you’ll never forget.”
At age 16, Greg Morton got first job at a local department store, as a P.A. announcer. That same voice that grabbed the attention of shoppers and wowed judges on the season 14 premier of Americaโs Got Talent. Howie Mandel said, โI canโt believe there isnโt a banner with your name on it in Vegas,โ and called him a one-man variety show!
Imagine, if you will, a world where Lewis Black was a much softer-spoken, affable Canadian. Strange as it may seem, thatโs what Greg Morton sounds like. With sound effects instead of the yelling, and substituting nerdy pop culture for politics, thereโs just something about the delivery and speaking directly to the audience with amused indignation in his latest album, In The Future.
