Greg Morton, Cracking Up at Crackers NOV.16 – 19 / 2011

This week, Greg Morton will be cracking up audiences at Crackers Comedy Club in Indianapolis with Jamille Harlley.

This is a very special week for me.  It marks my return to one of my favourite clubs and the place where I first debuted the Obama Man song.  4.2 million hits later, the song has become a major part of my show.  I try to tweak the lyrics with each new event in the Obama presidency.

A recently reworked lyric in the song goes as follows.

Who can buy an ipod?

Give it to the Queen.

Who can shoot Bin Laden while he’s sleeping in his dreams?  Obama Man.

Fans of this song and others like ‘Mom Jeans’ won’t be disappointed.  A handful of new songs will make their debut on stage and on the air at the Bob & Tom Show.  Herman Cain anyone?

GREG MORTON RETURNS TO THE DEBATERS

Attention all Star Wars geeks and comedy freaks! You don’t want to miss this show.

On Sat Jun 19, Greg Morton makes his second appearance on CBC’s The Debaters show, hosted by Steve Paterson. The topics will be, Darth Vader, Best or Worst Dad & Stay at Home Dads.

The Debaters celebrate dads this week as new father David Pryde tries to convince Star Wars fan and Dark Lord devotee Greg Morton that even though he did try to get his son to join the family business, Darth Vader remains the worst dad of all time.

Next up, domestic daddy Tim Nutt doffs his apron and throws down an oven mitt as he tries to prove to patriarchy propagator David Hemstad that “stay at home dad” is a job title any man can be proud of. We may be talking about fathers this week. but The Debaters remains the “mother” of all radio comedy shows. Catch the action Saturday at 1:00 PM on Radio One. It’s a good one!

Fans of The Debaters may recall the Greg Morton’s last debaters topic. Star Wars vs. Lord of the Rings. This knock down drag ’em out fight between comedians Greg Morton and Ron Sparks, now available on itunes.

VEGAS BABY!!!

Greg Morton performs all this week at the Comedy Stop, Sahara
Greg Morton is back in Vegas for the third time this year! Performing at the Comedy Stop at the Sahara Hotel in a brand new showroom. The Comedy Stop is not gone. They’ve moved us into this huge theatre. The same theatre where the fabulous Rick Thomas, and Sandy Hackett’s Rat Pack show perform.. If your hotel is on the other end of the strip, don’t worry. Take the monorail. It’s the quickest and cheapest way to get up and down the strip. You pay $5, or $28 for a three-day pass. That’s cheaper and faster than a cab and it drops you off at the Sahara’s back door.

How do I like the new digs? The sound and lighting in this room are incredible and the stage is huge! Most stand-ups would be intimidated, by its size, but not me. That just gives me more real estate to gyrate, rotate, and lose weight!

That is, if I can stay away from the buffet. 😉

Also appearing on the show…
Cork Procktor and Greg Vaccariello
Show time is at 9:00. See you then!

PS. My Wii weight was down to 175 this week. Try wearing 4 layers of pants in 110 degree weather. I probably sweat most of that weight off.

BOB & TOM ALL STARS VISIT JOPLIN & CINNCI

This week, the Bob and Tom All Stars visit Joplin, MO and Cincinnati, OH on another Canadian Mist sponsored tour!

Friday, March 12, Henry Phillips, Greg Hahn, Donnie Baker, Auggie Smith, and myself will be appearing at the Joplin Memorial Hall with host Chick McGee. Showtime is at 7:30 with a special meet and greet for a group of lucky show listeners at 6:45.

Saturday, March 13, the same crew are off to the 20th Century Theatre in Cincinnati, OH for two shows at 7:00 and 9:45! If you’ve never been to one of these shows before, I would highly recommend it.

What can you expect from me? Well, I certainly can’t pass up an opportunity to perform OBAMA MAN live. I may do OBAMA WANTS TO PULL THE PLUG ON GRANDMA. It was such a hit at the last All Star show and the audience really gets into it. I’ll also have a few surprises for anyone who has never seen my show before.

This is another Canadian Mist tour that should not be missed. Or should I say, another Canadian who should not be missed? 😉

Apple’s iPad, DO I NEED THIS THING?

Yesterday, Steve Jobs introduced his latest and greatest innovation to the world. The iPad. Yeah! Christmas is finally here!

After watching the keynote speech I was left wondering, do I need this thing? Maybe the recession has brought out my frugal side. Hey, wait a minute, I don’t have a frugal side! My wife and I have seven iPods, Four Mac computers and an iPhone between us. We need a Mac Museum.

I need to talk myself down off the ledge. This is what the conversation in my head sounded like yesterday.

FRUGAL SELF
What do you need that for?

ME
Look at it.

FURGAL SELF
It just looks like a big iPod Touch to me.

ME
It’s beautiful!

FRUGAL SELF
It’s 500 BUCKS!

ME
It’s $499. and I can put all my books on there.
I can display them on a virtual bookshelf like the trophies they are.

FRUGAL SELF
You haven’t even read all the books you have now.
For $500. you could almost buy two Kindles.

ME
Kindle? That thing looks like an Atari 1000 next to this thing.
With the iPad,I could surf the internet,
write email, listen to music, write notes, play games…

FRUGAL SELF
Your MacBook does all of those things.

ME
I could feel like one of the ship’s officers
on the flight deck of the Starship Enterprise.

FRUGAL SELF
You might feel like an ass
after spending that much money
on an oversized iPod Touch.

ME
It does look like an iPod Touch doesn’t it?

FRUGAL SELF
Or half an MacBook Air.

ME
But, I’ve been waiting for this thing for a whole year!

FRUGAL SELF
Wait another year and Jobs will come out
with another one that has twice as much memory
for half the price.

ME
I can’t wait that long.
I need an e-book reader.
It’s part of my plan to de-clutter.

FRUGAL SELF
De-clutter, what, your wallet?

ME
Shut up! I’m not listening. LA LA LA LA LA!
I want this. I want it. I want to live in the future.

FRUGAL SELF
What if you sent that money to Haiti?

ME

FRUGAL SELF

ME

I don’t need an iPad.

Obama Man Goes Viral! 2 Million Views on YouTube!

Well, it’s happened. Obama Man, the song parody about President Obama performed on The Bob and Tom Show just two months ago has reached over 2 million views. It’s simply mind boggling!

I have a few other clips that have been posted on YouTube like Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, and Hurricane MOFO, but none of them have surpassed 100,000 views.

2 weeks ago, I got a call from Tom of the Bob and Tom Show telling me the clip had gone viral. “Have you seen this thing?” I don’t know if you’re aware, but this clip has a million hits on YouTube.” Now, it’s a week later and it has reached over 2 MILLION. I’m simply gob smacked.

Since then, I’ve performed the song live at numerous venues across the county to a very positive response.

So what’s next? Well, there’s talk of a more visually elaborate version with revamped lyrics. I guess I’ll just ride the train and see where it takes me. I just hope I don’t have some kind of Susan Boyle breakdown!

Special thanks to everyone at the Bob and Tom Show! Without them, this wouldn’t be possible.
